New Jobs, New Services

The North Dorchester Garden Community will create new work opportunities and bring investment in new services: all within walking and cycling distance for those living within Dorchester.

Our ambition is to create one new job for every house constructed.

A New Education Campus

The North Dorchester Garden Community will be large enough to support a new three tier education campus to expand education provision within the county town. This will relieve pressure on the oversubscribed schools in the town and ensure children living within the new neighbourhood can easily walk to school.

A New Business Park

The delivery of the North Dorchester Garden Community
will also provide significant opportunity for new growth in Dorset’s county town, not only in terms of population but also by creating new jobs. Many hundreds of jobs will be created through the construction of the infrastructure, homes and other services, but there will also be the creation of significant areas of employment space for more permanent job opportunities. These new jobs will provide more opportunity for people to live and work locally, alleviating traffic and creating a balanced town.

A business park will provide modern accommodation for new and existing businesses as well as job opportunities for the town. New local centres to support the community will provide smaller commercial premises and other job opportunities.

Furthermore, we are supporting a number of objectives of the Dorchester Business Improvement District, namely through increasing footfall to the town centre (www.dorchesterdorset. com/bidinfo/).

New Health Services

Pressure on health services is a problem that already exists and needs to be addressed due to the growing and aging population of Dorchester and Dorset. We are planning to include a medical centre as part of the proposals for the North Dorchester Garden Community and are talking to the NHS about the best way to deliver medical services for the town.
